A-LEVEL MEDIA STUDIES: Pre-production - Target Audience for Thriller genre

Target audience for the thriller genre from andrewgoldman21

This research has influenced my ideas for a target audience for my film opening. I now know that my target audience is young working class adult males of a rough age range of 15-25 years old. This is as a result of the heavy action element that my film would entail had I the opportunity to film an entire movie. But as for the film opening, my ideas should link to this target audience as it it thrilling and one to watch with a group of friends in order to get the full Thriller experience.

A-LEVEL MEDIA STUDIES: Pre-production - Initial Ideas

INITIAL IDEAS of AS Film Opening:

  • Genre of a thriller therefore tense, unspectacular mood music is required to set the dark tone
  • Plot ideas: A criminal on the loose and is hunting down those Detectives who captured him; Detective in his house listening to radio report about the escape by the criminal whom he helped incarcerate; he hears noises and fragments of a dark figure; he investigates around his house; the criminal is in his house and captures him
  • Warner Bros. as production company as they have history of Thriller films
  • Cast and crew graphic titles before and during opening
  • Possible titles, 'Hunted to Hunter', 'The Hunt', 'Remember me?'

A-LEVEL MEDIA STUDIES: Preliminary Task 1 - Evaluation

For my Media Preliminary task, the filming was successful as everything was filmed promptly and quickly. Despite the editing stage being relatively successful, as I was able to attain copyright free music which worked very well in my film, I did come up against a problem. I discovered that as a result of a technical error, the sound of my clips didn’t record and thus all sound was lost. As such I required my actors, Charlie and Rowan, to re-dub the sound for me and then I could edit it back into the filmed clips. This process went well as Charlie and Rowans dubbing was perfect and therefore made it easier for me to sync the two separate media files together. If I could improve anything I would certainly improve my camera quality, as it was occasionally blurred, and to make sure the sound works while filming. I could do this by test recording a sound and playing it back to make sure it has registered, by doing this I wouldn’t have to re-dub sound and I would have more time to edit effectively.

On 05/11/15 I received feedback for my Preliminary Task, the feedback was generally positive as my 3 required elements were praised. However a criticism was that slightly more match on action was required in order to keep the film fresh and easier cut. I will take that into great consideration when I film and edit my AS Film Opening in the New Year.
